The Commonwealth War Graves Commission RAF memorial at Runnymede is a magnificent memorial commemorating over 20,000 service men and women of the Commonwealth Air Forces who died during operations from bases in the UK as well as North and Western Europe, and who have no known grave.
It was unveiled by the young Queen Elizabeth II only 4 months after coronation.
As ever, we will pause here to remember. It will remind us of the underlying purpose of our ride.
Also near this site are other memorials. The memorial to John F Kennedy, and the Magna Carta – both photos below (c) the National Trust.
